Phlebotomy
The phlebotomy certificate provides hands-on training to develop the entry-level skills necessary to be employed as a phlebotomist. This one-semester program includes a lecture-lab environment with state-of-the-art simulation software and an internship in a clinical placement site.
Our training prepares you for industry certification with the National Health Careers Association to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician.
Upon acceptance into the phlebotomy classes, please plan to attend one of the mandatory phlebotomy orientations prior to the start of classes. The orientation date/time will be shared with students upon acceptance to the program. Classes will be held on the Auraria campus.

Our training prepares you for industry certification with the National HealthCareers Association to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician.
This program is not eligible for federal student aid.
Externship schedules during the second 7 weeks of the semester will be dependent upon assignment and internship site schedule.

The median annual wage for phlebotomist was $20.99 hourly or $43,660 annually in May 2024.

The Phlebotomy program is a certificate program that prepares students for industry certification in their field. The Phlebotomy program may also be used to fulfill elective requirements towards the A.A.S. in Medical Assisting program as a stackable certificate pathway.
Spring 2026 Start: Application opens September 15, 2025, and closes on November 15, 2025.

When completing the application, enter either non-degree seeking or undeclared as the program option (you may not self-select the phlebotomy program as an option).

Interview Process
After the admissions committee has reviewed your online application, eligible candidates will be selected for an interview shortly after the application window closes. Applicants will be expected to confirm an appointment for their interview and be available the week of interviews for full consideration.
Final selections will be made shortly after the interview week. You will receive a notification by email if you are selected for entry into the program.
The program chair and other departments will communicate with you providing important information regarding onboarding and participation in the Phlebotomy Program.
Those accepted into the program will also receive instructions regarding the following:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare professionals certification.
- Background and drug screen.
- Complete medical history and physicalexam.
- Register for HPR 1020 and 1080 and pay for your classes.This certificate is not eligible for Financial Aid.
- Attend orientation.
- The department chair Shelly Halper will collect all required documents.
